On the 7 and 8 December 2020 the 14th PES Board Meeting took place, in a virtual format. The pandemic did not allow the PES Board to accept the invitation of the German Presidency to convene in Munich therefore the meeting had to be organised online. In accordance with the Presidency’s slogan ‘Together for Europe’s recovery’ the PES Board was dedicated to the pandemic’s effects on the European labour markets.
The meeting started with a panel debate attended by the German Federal Minister of Labour and Social Affair Hubertus Heil, the European Commissioner for Jobs and Social Rights Nicolas Schmit, the Chair of the PES Network Johannes Kopf and Daniel Terzenbach the 2nd Vice Chair of the Network. The participants analysed the effects of the pandemic and the role of PES’ role for recovery in a post-COVID-19 future. Some other highlights: To reflect the role of PES and how PES can best contribute to the recovery, the Network has adopted a new policy paper ‘Preparing for post- COVID-19 challenges’, which will be soon published on this website. Professor Bernard Gazier(University Paris) conntributed to the Board’s discussion with reflections on PES supporting structural changes on the labour markets and Professor Bernd Fizenberger(IAB) shared his views on how the pandemic acts as a catalyst for the digitalisation of the world of work.
