In the context of the European Year of Skills the 2023 PES Network stakeholder conference took place on the 30 March addressing the topic ‘Empowering the Workforce, Bridging the Skills Gap’. Around 150 participants met in Brussels to discuss one of the top priority topics in labour market policy. Representatives from the labour market ecosystem such as experts from the European Social Partners, private employment services, training providers, academics, NGOs and European Institutions and IGOs had the opportunity to discuss and exchange on various aspects of the skills topic.
Panel discussions as well as several workshops gave participants the chance to discuss how PES and the other stakeholders can contribute to up- and re-skill the workforce. Issues such as understanding the skills needs of the future labour markets, developing skills for the digital and green transition and how to support those most impacted by the latter framed the event.
It became clear that PES play a central role in supporting the workforce, but that efficient policies can only be delivery in partnerships. These includes all levels, decision makers as well as training providers and jobseekers. Johannes Kopf, chair of the PES Network stressed the need for
courageous political decisions and the importance of PES that are provided with sufficient resources.
