Today, the Chair of the PES Network, Johannes Kopf, met the new Commissioner for Jobs and Social Rights, Nicolas Schmit.
The new European Commission has presented an ambitious agenda including several employment topics where Public Employment Services play a key role.
The reinforcement of the EU Youth Guarantee is one of these topics to be addressed. As a new Commission´s proposal on the Youth Guarantee will be issued, the PES Network offers its expertise. A Network’s Working Group is currently exploring how a redesigned Youth Guarantee can further increase support to young European citizens.
Furthermore, the European Skills Agenda is supposed to be updated. PES are key implementing institutions of many elements of the Skills Agenda especially in prediction of skills, assessment of skills and providing up- and reskilling activities. The PES Network welcomes the initiative of the Commission and is looking forward to contributing to its redesign and implementation of the updated Skills Agenda.
Another issue relevant to PES is the Commission’s plan to develop a European Unemployment Reinsurance Scheme to better protect European citizens in case of external shocks.
The PES Network is looking forward to deliver expertise to the new Commission´s employment agenda.
